On September 15, the Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE), in collaboration with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, will host a half-day conference on the future of Europe and trans-Atlantic relations. Ahead of the critical elections in Germany, and following dramatic elections in France, Great Britain, and the Netherlands, CUSE scholars will examine shifting dynamics across Europe and evolving views about the Euro-Atlantic partnership.
The panel discussion will assess the future of Europe and the trans-Atlantic partnership, and will include CUSE scholars Celia Belin, William Drozdiak, Kemal Kirişci, Constanze Stelzenmüller, and Thomas Wright. Brookings Vice President for Foreign Policy Bruce Jones will provide introductory remarks.
The program will also feature a keynote conversation between Strobe Talbott, president of the Brookings Institution, and Victoria Nuland, nonresident senior fellow with CUSE and former U.S. assistant secretary of state. Drawing on their considerable experience in trans-Atlantic affairs, Talbott and Nuland will reflect on the current moment in Euro-Atlantic relations and assess how unfolding events in Europe and the United States are shaping the global role of the West.
The event is part of the “Brookings – Robert Bosch Foundation Transatlantic Initiative,” a new collaboration aimed at generating nonpartisan research and analysis and sustaining dialogue to reinvigorate trans-Atlantic collaboration on global issues.
The Robert Bosch Stiftung is one of Europe’s largest foundations associated with a private company. It is active in the areas of health, science, society, education, and international relations. For more than 30 years, strengthening the ties between the United States and Germany has been one of the main goals of the Robert Bosch Stiftung. Through its trans-Atlantic projects, the foundation promotes open exchange and mutual understanding, cooperating with American universities, think tanks, and non-profit institutions.
