The $62 billion in green investments in the Obama administration’s 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act created 640,000 jobs per year by 2017 according to this paper. The authors explore ways that future green investments—such as those in infrastructure legislation that recently passed the Senate—could affect workers and shape the economy.
Authors of a new BPEA study find that debt relief during the pandemic was well-targeted and protected millions of Americans. About 60% of borrowers who entered debt forbearance have exited it as of May. The question now, especially for mortgage loans still in forbearance, is how borrowers can repay their arrears manageably if mandated forbearance expires as scheduled at the end of September.
Looking at trends from recent U.S. history and examples from abroad, Ricardo Reis calls on monetary policymakers to carefully track inflation expectations when trying to judge whether elevated inflation levels will persist beyond this year.
