We've got you covered: Meeting basic health care needs

A Hamilton Project event

Thursday, October 26, 2023, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EDT
The Brookings Institution, Falk Auditorium, 1775 Massachusetts Ave. NW. Washington, D.C.

Incremental change has helped many more Americans get health insurance. But whenever there are multiple pathways to getting health insurance, inevitably gaps in coverage result. There is still great room for improvement in the current health care policy landscape.

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, The Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution will convene leaders and experts to discuss the future of health care policy in the United States. The event will include two discussions featuring Amy Finkelstein (MIT), Jason Furman (Harvard University), Esther Krofah (Milken Institute), Kyu Rhee (National Association of Community Health Centers), and Henry Waxman (Waxman Strategies).

In conjunction with the event, The Hamilton Project will release a policy proposal by Amy Finkelstein and Liran Einav. The authors argue that the purpose of U.S. health insurance policy is to fulfill a long-standing societal commitment to try to provide access to essential health care, regardless of resources. They propose universal coverage for a basic set of medical services, and the option to buy additional, supplemental coverage in a well-designed market. Additionally, The Hamilton Project will release a policy proposal by Jason Brown and Gopi Goda on gaps in affordable health care for low-income seniors.

Registration is required to attend an event in person and guests at Brookings are required to attest to their state of health before attending.
