What: For over a year, forces under Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have fought to oust the Tigray People’s Liberation Front from the northern region of Tigray. While each side’s fortunes have ebbed at various points, the war has been a destructive force in Africa’ second most populous country, leaving thousands dead and displacing more than two million people.
On May 18, the Africa Security Initiative at Brookings will host an event to discuss the civil war as well as the political, economic, and social challenges facing the Horn of Africa. The event will feature Visiting Fellow Jeffrey Feltman, who until January 2022 served as the Biden administration’s special envoy for the Horn of Africa.
