China is a global actor whose influence can be felt on every continent and in every major functional area. China’s increasingly assertive behavior around the world continues to dominate headlines, as recent events have shown. How is the United States approaching the challenge posed by China? How is the Biden administration working with allies and partners to address this challenge? Where are there opportunities to advance American national interests? How can competition be managed responsibly without veering into conflict?

On February 15, to mark the culmination of the latest phase of research as part of the project, “Global China: Assessing China’s Growing Role in the World,” the Foreign Policy program at Brookings will host Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman for a keynote address. Following her address, Deputy Secretary Sherman will engage in conversation with Brookings Senior Fellow Ryan Hass and David M. Rubenstein Fellow Patricia Kim.
