The American Rescue Plan at two years: How Latinos are leveraging equitable deployment of federal funds

Latino communities were disproportionally affected by the public health and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the face of these challenges, the federal government responded with historic investments to support the recovery and rebuilding of communities across the nation. Since the passage of landmark legislation such as the American Rescue Plan Act, community foundations and nonprofits have worked to ensure that funds are being deployed equitably and advance solutions on critical issues such as broadband, climate change, and mental health. Together with the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act, Latinos across the country are encountering a pivotal moment in the rebuilding of their communities. 

On Tuesday, March 21, Brookings Metro—in partnership with the Latino Community Foundation—will host an event to assess the impact of these federal investments on the nation’s second-largest ethnic group. Speakers will highlight strategies that nonprofits and government leveraged to direct the deployment of federal funds in ways that centered community voices in decisionmaking and ensured that these investments equitably reached communities with urgency and transparency.
