The well-being of men and boys of color is often examined in fragmented ways, focused on specific policy domains, markets, and industries, which can miss the structural linkages among systems that reinforce trends within education, employment, and criminal justice. Rather than treating outcomes as products of individual circumstances, there is need for a new framework that traces how structural conditions flow through domains of well-being into measurable outcomes, including how long people live.

On Monday, November 9, the Center for Community Uplift at Brookings will convene leading scholars and experts for a virtual discussion focused on the need for a new agenda and policy approach to supporting and improving the well-being of men and boys of color.

Following a research presentation from Brookings scholars, a panel of experts and practitioners will consider the implications of the analysis, and why a new framework that considers place as a fundamental actor is critical to improving the subjective well-being of men and boys of color. The discussion will seek to identify and understand the places where men and boys of color are thriving, and what we can learn from them.
