As the world grapples with a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, economic uncertainty, and urgent global challenges such as climate change, debt crises, and technological disruption, the role of the Group of Twenty (G20)an intergovernmental group of 19 countries plus the European Union and African Unionhas never been more criticalEstablished as a premier forum for international economic cooperation, the G20 brings together the world’s major economies to foster dialogue and advance cooperation on key global issues. The G20 has a strong record of accomplishment, from the management of the 2008 global financial crisis to mobilizing climate financing worldwide. However, there is still a need to revitalize the G20 to ensure it remains an effective driver of cooperation in the face of evolving global challenges.

On Tuesday, April 22, the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings will host a high-level public discussion on the importance of the G20 in today’s global environment. Taking place on the sidelines of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund spring meetings, a diverse panel of experts will examine how the G20 can adapt to new challenges, strengthen its role in global governance, and promote inclusive and sustainable global growth and shared prosperity.

Viewers can submit questions for the panel via email to events@brookings.edu, via X (Twitter) to @BrookingsGlobal using #FutureOfG20 or using #FutureOfG20 on Bluesky.
