In the early hours of June 13, Israel attacked Iranian nuclear and military targets while assassinating several top security officials, marking a dramatic escalation in the long-simmering conflict between the two countries. In the days since, Israel and Iran have traded airstrikes and missile attacks, with the United States entering the war with attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites at Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. Will Iran respond with further escalation? Can a diplomatic resolution be achieved?.
On Tuesday, June 24, join the Foreign Policy program at Brookings for a discussion of the roots of the Israel-Iran war, where it might go from here, and the key questions facing U.S. policymakers. The conversation will feature: Jeffrey Feltman, John C. Whitehead visiting fellow in international diplomacy at Brookings and former under-secretary-general for political affairs at the United Nations; Philip Gordon, Sydney Stein Jr. scholar at Brookings and former national security adviser to the vice president; and Suzanne Maloney, vice president and director of Foreign Policy at Brookings.
