Vietnam, a growing economic powerhouse in Southeast Asia, has seen a significant increase in engagement with the U.S. amid escalating U.S.-China rivalry in the region. On March 1, the Center for East Asia Policy Studies at Brookings will host a virtual fireside conversation with U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper and Brookings Senior Fellow Jonathan Stromseth on U.S. policy toward Vietnam, the top priorities in the relationship, and what bilateral opportunities and challenges lie ahead in the future.
A highly distinguished member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ambassador Knapper previously served as deputy assistant secretary for Korea and Japan from August 2018 to July 2021. In his discussion, Ambassador Knapper will offer insights into the current state-of-play of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship and developments happening in Vietnam.
