What: Following a months-long military buildup, and despite U.S. and European diplomatic efforts, Russia launched massive attacks across Ukraine on February 24. In the immediate wake of the invasion, the United States enacted new economic sanctions, deployed additional troops to Europe, and promised to defend NATO territory with the “full force of American power.”
On March 2, the Center on the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution will convene experts for a virtual discussion of the war in Ukraine. The panel will examine Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intentions, assess U.S. and allied responses, and explore the wider geopolitical implications of the unfolding crisis.
