What: The United States and its allies face an increasing set of threats from potential adversaries such as China, Russia, and North Korea. United States Strategic Command’s mission is to deter these threats through the deployment of a set of strategic capabilities, including nuclear forces, global strike, and missile defense. But is the United States acquiring the right set of capabilities -- including the U.S. strategic nuclear modernization program -- to maintain effective deterrence in the future?

On Friday, May 7, the Foreign Policy program at Brookings will host Commander of the U.S. Strategic Command Admiral Charles Richard for a discussion on the future of strategic deterrence and U.S. nuclear modernization under the Biden administration.
