The United States collects substantially less revenue from corporations than it did several decades ago. These declines have contributed to rising deficits and to declining tax rates on capital income and on high-income Americans. Reforming corporate taxation is a critical step toward a progressive tax system that raises enough revenue to meet national needs.
On June 16, The Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution, the Tax Law Center at NYU Law, and the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center will host an event on business tax reform. The event will include two panel discussions featuring Aviva Aron-Dine (The Hamilton Project), Kimberly Clausing (UCLA Law), Chye-Ching Huang (Tax Law Center), Elena Patel (Tax Policy Center), Gregg Polsky (NYU Law), Arvind Ravichandran (Cravath), Richard Rubin (The Wall Street Journal), Monisha Santamaria (KPMG), and Eric Zwick (University of Chicago). Public reception to follow.
In conjunction with the event, the Hamilton Project will release three policy proposals addressing corporate tax reform in the wake of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025; taxing large pass-through businesses as corporations; and the path forward on international tax reform. The Hamilton Project will also release an essay on the need for revenue-raising business tax reform.
For updates on the event, viewers can follow @HamiltonProj, @TaxLawCenterNYU, and @TaxPolicyCenter and join the conversation using #BusinessTax to ask questions or email info@hamiltonproject.org.
