A Hamilton Project and Peterson Institute for International Economics virtual event

Tariffs have become a major topic in the 2024 presidential election. From higher inflation and interest rates to supply chain disruptions, across-the-board tariffs could have widespread consequences for U.S. consumers, businesses, and the economy.

On October 17, The Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution and the Peterson Institute for International Economics will host a virtual event to discuss the potential economic effects of tariffs.

The event will feature a panel discussion with Wendy Edelberg (The Hamilton Project), Jason Furman (Harvard University and Peterson Institute for International Economics), Maurice Obstfeld (Peterson Institute for International Economics and University of California, Berkeley), and Ana Swanson (The New York Times).

For updates on the event, viewers can follow @HamiltonProj and @PIIE and join the conversation using #Tariffs to ask questions or email info@hamiltonproject.org.

This event is a part of Election ’24: Issues at Stake, a Brookings initiative aimed at bringing public attention to consequential policy issues confronting voters and policymakers in the run up to the 2024 election. This includes equipping leaders with insights and policy ideas to help them govern in 2025 and beyond.
