On November 10, Ukraine’s anti-corruption authorities unveiled a major scandal in the energy sector involving individuals connected to the office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The resulting political fallout, including the dismissal of Zelenskyy’s powerful chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, has unfolded alongside the Trump administration’s renewed push for a diplomatic resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war. Negotiations have continued through a series of draft texts and high-level meetings as Washington, Moscow, Kyiv, and European capitals consider possible frameworks for peace, with the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion approaching.

On December 18, the Center on the United States and Europe at Brookings will convene a virtual discussion on the diplomacy and domestic politics around the conflict as well as the prospects for peace.
