    What universities owe democracy
A conversation with Ron Daniels, president of Johns Hopkins University

    When: Thursday, March 31, 2022, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. EDT

    Where: http://www.brookings.edu/events/what-universities-owe-democracy

What: Democracy is under attack both at home and abroad. Colleges and universities play a unique role in strengthening democracy, yet their value is often overlooked. On March 31, join Governance Studies at Brookings for a virtual fireside chat with Senior Fellow Elaine Kamarck and Ronald J. Daniels, president of Johns Hopkins University and author of “What Universities Owe Democracy,” as they discuss the relationship between liberal democracy and universities, the importance of civic education in democracy, how universities can create a shared sense of truth for the citizenry, and what more universities can do to promote social mobility and free speech on campuses.

Viewers can submit questions by email to events@brookings.edu, or on Twitter @BrookingsGov using #StrengtheningDemocracy.

Copies of the book can be purchased from The Ivy Bookshop or Politics and Prose.
