Who's missing from the post-pandemic labor force?

 

The post-pandemic labor force is 900,000 people smaller than one would have expected. Using backcast population data, Lauren Bauer, Wendy Edelberg, Sara Estep, and Brad Hershbein find that propensity to work has largely recovered and the shortfall in workers is mostly due to COVID-19 deaths and a decrease in immigration.
