Brookings goes to Bali

A Brookings China Center delegation traveled to Bali, Indonesia, for the tenth round of the Brookings-Tsinghua U.S.-China Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence and National Security.

 

The two sides agreed to move forward with publication of a glossary of key terminology, drawing from five years of dialogue.

Taiwan's central role in the global economy. On June 7, the Center for Asia Policy Studies at Brookings hosted a discussion that examined Taiwan's place in the global economy and the potential developments that lie ahead. Brookings China Center Director Ryan Hass moderated the discussion.

Xi is prioritizing China's global power over domestic economy. In the World Politics Review, Mary Gallagher authored a column on the Third Plenum to be held by the Chinese Communist Party in July and the possibility of growth reforms.

 

Russia and North Korea's defense pact. In a New York Times article, Yun Sun weighed in on the Putin-Kim summit and the headaches it creates for China. Patricia M. Kim was also quoted in three Korean publications—Korea Times, Yonhap News, New Daily Korea—as well as VOA on the newly signed Russia-North Korea defense pact and its regional implications.
